Angry Maintenance Required Indicator Light

My used pickup doesn't have a manual so I'm not sure what an illuminated
Maintenance Required indicator light means. Any idea what I need to do
to solve the problem?

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

there is a small switch behind one of the switch blank off plates to the right of the steering column. It is a very small switch about 6" deep into the dash, hard to find easy to reset.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

Thanks for the suggestion. Pardon my ignorance but what is a switch blank off plate? What potential problem does the indicator light suggest? Can I ignore it like I do with mu Audi ?Thanks.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

You can ignore it but I found it annoying, its so easy to reset you should do it. The blank off plate is about 1" wide by 2" tall just to the right of the steering column, just pop it out with a knife or screwdriver.

I'll try popping the plate to reach the switch. Thanks much for your help.

My '88 has about 120,000 miles. Barely passed New York State emissions test a month ago. Bought it used last year. Hope to get one more year out of it.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

pop it out with a screw driver and a twist. look in with a flash light, put your finger in and swich in one way that it moves, and leave it there. your light should go off.

For future reference to anyone who is going to try to do this.

Pop out your Hazzard Light switch and it's behind there!!!!

Good goin J8, I thought you would never get it done.
as for the light...it is there to get you to the dealer and take your $. it is not a check engine light.
foreteen years ago i bought a oil drain plug valve...that lasted as long.i think fram makes one now, (pep-boys,autozone,r&s) If not, I have seen them online. It made my 80+ changes a hell of alot easyer.
with your milage, i would change every 2,000 to 2,500. If you hear tapping when you start....use 2qts 5-30 & (2) 10-40 plus a filter (each time.)

later.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

What you mean? You thought I would never get it done? I didn't start this thread. Anyways, not to be rude or anything, if you are trying to tell me what weight oil I should use, I work a Havoline Xpress Lube and have been there for 2 years and 7 months and I run Rotella T 15w40. I have 190k on the odometer BTW.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

OK, post was started by CVIS. You came back to my post with "thanks alot"...check posts. Forget the post.
You work at Havoline lube, (none in central Jersey). I got a change last week, and they charged me a dollar extra for 10-30. Saying they had 5-30 (bulk) that most cars use. Although my calls for 10. I gave in, an paid. I'll be doing my own from now on.
Would be nice to get what you want, without getting ripped off.
If you could get back to my , we will end this post.

Re: Maintenance Required Indicator Light

You are getting too technical with the replies and as for payin' extra for 10w30 is f 'd up. We have 530, 1030, 1540, 520 and 1040 that we don't charge extra for, up to 5 quarts! I'd find somewhere else to go...
