First races!

Okay so i just bought my first DSM, a '96 Eagle Talon. Its a 5spd, black on black, but its only got the 2.0L 420A motor. so i was out cruisin in it and i get on the highway, and almost as soon as im on a red ZX2 pulls up next to me and starts revving, then goes WOT. he had exhaust and sounded maybe like an intake, but as soon as i hear him nail the gas, i do the same. but in my excitement ive forgotten that im in 4th gear. the ZX2 already has 3 cars on me before i even start pulling. on top of that i had to shut it down around 75 mph because there was a truck in front of me. later on i met up with some guys at a local hangout, a Pep Boys. there were a few nice cars, a twin turbo Stealth, a '98 V6 Mustang, and a few others. i start talkin to the guy in the Mustang, and he proceeds to show me his two, yes two, underbody neon kits, 4 12's in the trunk, and the ridiculous amount of neon on the inside. the underbodys were freakin' bright, making almost a 4 foot cicle of pure blue light around the car. so he starts talkin about how much HP his new exhaust added, so i was like well lets run. he agrees and we both line up at a light a little ways away. the Mustang powersbrakes since he had an auto, and i launch at 4000 rpm and get a good couple chirps from the my tires. by second gear im a car length ahead, and at the end of third im about 2 lengths ahead. i shut it down at about an 1/8 mile. he pulls up next to me and waves, and i start headin home.

cliff notes:

death to a Escort ZX2
killed a riced out v6 Mustang

Re: First races!

yeah those pree 00 V6 mustangs are weak. I think they are only 150 HP and weight like 3200 lbs. Not to mention all the neons and speakers dont help with his speed and on top of that an auto. Jeez why the hell does that guy even bother to race?

Re: First races!

still though, u were in 4th gear doing what...70? there's not much pull there now if u had downshifted to 2nd or 3rd and still lost....THAT would be embarrassing i was hanging in front of a galant last night shifting out of every gear at 4k...no problems he flew by after i slowed down for the lght though

Get some syncromesh, should help out a little.
Knowing your car is most important, if you know your car won't tollerate a certain downshift, then don't do it. If you race, you break parts, and you learn. That's the fun part.
