auto tranny fluid, how much to put?

89 turbo supra auto,
i drained the auto tranny fluid, but how much am i suppose to fill it back up to? the tsrm says something about the capacity being 7.6 qts, and something about 1.7 qts for draining and refilling? after the draining the fluid, do i just add in 1.7 qts or near there? or do i pour in 7.6 qts? or maybe something about the auto tranny fluid can only be changed a certain amount at a time? i poured in about 1.7 quarts after draining and the dipstick says it should be correct, but just wanted to make sure. thanks for listening.

Exactly, the trans holds alot of fluid in the torque converter and tran pan. Put in the 1.7L and check the dip stick to see if it full yet, there should be a fill plug on the side of the transmission, you'll need one of the little pumps to fill it up.
