And they don't cost an insanely high amount

There are 2 out at the dealer by me.... Sweet little cars, really wouldn't mind one.

they dont cost an insane amount?

last time i checked it was like base price $42,000 usdm for one of those... realize that it is a couple lbs under 2,000 i believe with a 190bhp toyota 2zz engine...

you can pick up a new mrs for a little over 20,000 swap a 2zz in (simple swap) for arround or under $4,000 and now u have a mid engine rwd 180hp 2200lb car... u can easily make 10 more hp with simple mods

so yes the elise is a great car.. but i still dont see why it is as expensive as it is

It handles tracks so well that it can keep up with cars putting out nearly twice its power. I guarantee you a MR2 Spyder with a swapped 2zz engine can't accomplish that.

actually it can... it keeps up quite well with 290hp silvias on the track, and is one of the best handling cars there is... most people highly underestimate the mrs due to the 138hp stock... i really think they should have stuck in the 2zz in stock or as an option

Re:

okay. What's your point?
MR2's are cool, and handle well, hell my uncle has one, I love the car.
Styling lacks some of what the elise has tho dont ya think?

elise is placed in a whole other class of car than a mr2, difference is a mr2 is a nice quick comuter thats it, the poor thing is left behind. lotus look at it premiume spent on the handiling and braking alot more time was spent on the lotus for sure. if you ever see these two car directelly next to you, which one is in your mind more the car that could possibly considered ugly outside of the jgtc or the british raceing green lotus power and grace. "hm thats sounds good ill have that" lloyd dumb and dumber. today drove by the chevy dealership and stoped and almost cause an accident. three cars parked on teh floor the cadillac ctsv, xlr and the mack daddy, 2005 corvette c6 red damn that was nice.

i saw one this weekend. i was at red light and then it passed slowly in front of me. first i thought of mr2 but then i realized that it was elise. one cute small premium which costs like vette but corners better.

I've said this before...the MR2 looks like a frog from the front...especially the green ones...

But sad fact is that this is the last year for them in the States...

The Lotus Elise is one of the sweetest cars on the road. My dad's cousin has one. I havent seen it yet, but he sold his 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 coupe for it. At $40K, its a sweet ride on the cheap.

Re: saw my first lotus elise on these shores

does the lotus engine cost much? I thought it was a beefed up toyota engine that revs slightly higher than the one found in the celica. if so it's a great light car that you can do stuff to the engine and not worry about blowing a $20,000 engine.
