Night out

Well, it was my first weekend with my vr4 and a friend of mine wanted to go out for a cruise to see if we could find anyone to race. Well, I've been wanting to race my vr4 against something worthy for awhile now so I was down for it.

So we're going around.....i'm in my vr4, he's in his grand am gt, slightly modded and we can't find a thing. We were on our way back when at a stoplight he changes to the right lane and i stayed in the left looking ahead and seeing that 5 letter word i've wanted to for awhile COBRA. I pull up next to the guy and rev up a little. He notices me and we drive normal till about 15 then he starts stepping on it and i match him. Finally, i go come on punch it. He revs it up and i see the front end of the car come up and I do the same and off we go. Except, I'm not fully steppin on it to keep up and at about 70 he gives up on it and nods his head to me and says nice ride and he pulls off to get some fast food.

Clearly it wasn't a svt but i'm sure it was the mach1 305 hp. My friend was so pumped after watch us. He said he saw both or cars lift then all he hear was the stangs exhaust and then my turbos spooling hard. I had a good time even if the guy gave up on it...I had him anyways.

It looked pretty new, probably something like a 2000 - 2002. It definitely wasn't supercharged. Here are the mustangs.

Mustang...v6 hp?
Mustang Gt....v8 5.0L SOHC 260hp
Mustang Cobra...aka...Mach1....v8 4.6L DOHC 305hp
Mustang Cobra SVT....v8 4.6L DOHC Supercharged 390hp
Mustang Saleen...i dunno about this one, it's fast, that's all i know.

I think i'm generally correct, but i'm not gonna look it up and check it out. I thought that cobra would get me from a roll like that....was i wrong.

Very impressive if u can take gts with ur n/a. I was about 3 car lengths back with my stock 99 sl on a slightly modded gt. Must have some nice mods to beat them.

Re: Night out

just one clarification, the mach1 is its own trim level, like the bullet. They arent cobras. But everything else looks good.

Re:

Actually Not all Saleen mustangs are fast, You just gotta know what you're up against quarter times on them range from a decent 15 to mid 12's

The Mach 1 is also a 4.6l puttin out 305 HP, Just has some nice badging

GT's and the Bullit mustang are about the same at 265 HP (I think the bullit got a 10 HP boost now tho...) they also have a 4.6L engine

Oh Mach 1 has to have Premium gas only. the GT can run on regular

Don't mess with a Cobra R unless the guy can't drive or your VR4 is modded well :P I've heard they run mid to low 12's Not positive on that though.

Saleen Trims:
S281 Coupe ~14 quarter ( 290 HP) (Convertible is slower)
S281 Supercharged Coupe ~13 quarter ( 375 HP) (Also a Convertible version, be wary of which one you're up against)
S281 Extreme ~12.5 (445 HP) (Coupe and convertible, Look at the tires... they're pretty wide on the extreme, 9" up front and 10" on the back to be exact.)

Gotta love google. lol.

Edit:\ The 2005 v6 only has 200 HP.

Re: Night out

The 03/04 cobras require about $40 in mods be be low in the 12's. That wonderful part being a supercharger pully.

Ok, I thought the mach1 and cobra were different. I also knew the 03 and 04 cobras come supercharged with 390 hp. However, i'm curious about previous year cobras. Was mach1 not made till those years or what? Because before then the cobra i'm pretty sure pushed 305 hp without a supercharger which is the same as the mach1?

The V-6 mustangs put out 160 HP and I thought all Cobras where Supercharged! I also thought all Cobras where SVTs. And to beat a Mustang GT is very impressive! according tho what I hear from my brother in law, they have 14 second quarters stock. so you must be highly modded!

Supercharger didn't come into play till 2003 on the cobras. Mustang Gt should run about a 14.4 in the ¼ stock. I can believe he can beat them, but it would take some modding for it to happen...SL starts at 222 hp and all u would need to drop are some intake, exhaust, headers, and a little nitrous...u'll be in great shape.
