Performance Parts

Hey All,

Just got a 2001 Cruiser limited with an auto tranny (not my choice, the car is a gift). I love the car, hate the straight line performance. Does anyone have any aftermarket parts on there Cruiser that they have dynoed to find out if there is any h.p and torque increases? I know that things like cold air intakes and exhausts should help, but I don't want to spend $800-$900 foolishly on parts that really dont do anything.

Thanks

Re: Performance Parts

My friend has a PT of the same year with an auto tranny. He put on a cold air and a throttle body spacer. That gave it a nice sound at WOT (wide open Throttle). He said that gave it some good top end power. He then put on headers and an exhaust. The tri Y headers helped drastically off the line. and the exhaust just sounds great. He has since put on an ignition and wires which were less noticeable low in the rev range. But over 3000 rpm, he said it came alive more. He hasn't dynoed it but he can compare it to a stock PT and the differences are definitly noticeable. But with the auto, the straight line will never be great unless you spend 1000's on a supercharger or turbo or head porting and polishing. just some food for thought

I put a Flowmaster exhaust system on my PT and not only does it sound better but the acceleration was better. Listen to it here -

You might try Summit for other performance parts, I ordered a few items there.

good luck!

On my '02 Touring 5spd I installed an AirRaid intake (I think from 'Revel Enterprises') and a Hearthrob cat-back exhaust (from JC Whitney; not stainless steel but WAY cheaper than Borla...). Nice throaty roar (but not TOO loud) under acceleration and it definitely pulls better to redline b4 running out of breath. I highly recommend this combination as good "bang-for-the-buck".

Re: Performance Parts

A conpamy named HAHN makes a very nice Turbo kit for the PT. Several places offer it on line, best price I've seen is about $2700. I'm considering it myself, IF I don't trade for a new GT model........

Re: Performance Parts

What about these computer performance modules sold on ebay which modify the air/gas curves in the ECU - White Lightnin is a brand I saw. Do they work - they advertise 18HP increase?
