The BRETHERN and the MOTHER TRUCKERS UNITE.

This is speaking from owning (4) modified 4x4 and living through the does and should not have's.

One experienced mechanic just told me that rebuilding a rear-end is sometimes more complex than an engine and that he would never do it.

I wanted to do the same thing you do now.

My very experienced mechanic stated this, "If you wish to change the gearing, you must send your rear-end to a rear end specialist who only does rear ends every day, not some 4x4 parts shop who may do a couple a year."

Some are put together too tight, which cuases a vibration, others too loose, just like a doctor, take it to a specialist who does boob jobs everyday.

Re: gearing

There are many regular people who know how to set gears. I've done it in a parking lot before and it still came out near perfect (and it's been nearly a year).

I would think somewhere between 4.10 and 4.88'ish would bring the RPM's back closer to the stock range. You could go even lower if you would like.
