Re: Weight reduction
IT doesnt weight much. Around 20 pounds. Removing the evaporator under the dash (you lose heat too) makes it a whopping 35 pounds
I wouldnt take it out for weight reasons only. In my case it makes it 10 times easier to drop the tranny and pull teh motor, and with my FMIC, I had trouble overheating with the AC condenser in there.

I bought my 94 clipse with the A/C broke. I never looked into it to try to figure out the problem. I thought "Either I get 'er fixed or rip 'er out". So I ripped 'er out. It was a good chose, its always cold in Indiana anyways

Re: Weight reduction
another thing you can do to reduce some weight that really wont make a difference is actually cut out the spare tire area. im gonna cut it out and weld a thin piece of metal over it but not for weight just because im gonna modify my rear bumper and i dont want to see that stupid boob on teh ass of my car

Re: Weight reduction
On a hatch the floorpan is part of the structural design and strength. People generally dont mess with it until they have a roll cage installed to keep the car straight.

Re: Weight reduction
does anybody know how much it would cost to get a 1g hatch rear window replaced with lexan? i figure thats gotta be the biggest weight saving we can get since the hatch weighs so much. it shouldn't look too bad since its mostly flat already.

Re: Weight reduction
That is true, the 1g hatch is way to heavy, figures why the hatch struts always break

Re: Weight reduction
A couple vendors off glass hatches/front clips. Magnus and bushur offer some parts off the top of my head.
Most poeple install a 6 or 8 point cage that will pass NHRA/IHRA tech. That will negate any weight savings you get from removing the spare tire area.

Re: Weight reduction
the rear hatch is heavy but the weight distribution of our cars in mostly in front so consider losing that before you make the ass really light. cf hood, fenders, shit like that.

Re: Weight reduction
i was looking at the sparetire area last night and it really donest look like it holds much. its at the very endof hte car literally so im thinking if i weld a plate over it i wont see any bad side effects. anyway how much should a shop charge for a 6 or 8 point cage.

Re: Weight reduction
Local shops charge about 700-800 for a 6 point cage with one swingout.
