4WD HI jumping out of gear

Anyone heard of this?

My 98 Rodeo with automatic trany when in 4WD HI sometimes jumps out of gear like it is trying to switch to 4 WD low on it's own. Not sure what would cause this, hoping that some one here can help. Sounds horrible when it happens and I must come to a complete and quick stop in torder to get it back into gear.

measure the cicumfrence of your front and rear tires if front worn more or rear worn more this can be your problem

Yes- like 2eye says, different sized tires will cause driveline bind, which can pop the xfer case out of range. Same EXACT sized tires all the way around are a must on these 4x4's. Dont drive it on dry pavement in 4x4 too long if you can avoid it.
G/luck

If tires are the right size you may have a problem with the syncronizer ring cracked, or another problem in the transfer case.

Thanks guys. Looks like tires are my problem. When I purchased this thing a couple of months ago it had 2 new tires on it, and the other 2 were pretty old and worn but with tread still on them. Looks like I am tire shopping. I was hoping it was something simple. Thanks again.
