Re: How do I install a starter?

On the 1.9L....center yourself on the blue ford emblem and lean in...look thru the shiny pipes of the intake manifold on the drivers side (the right side on how you are oriented)...the starter is just below these pipes, fairly high up on the engine...it may say Motorcraft 12v and will be black centrally with aluminum ends...it is a cylinder ~ 10 inches long and ~ 5 inches in diameter.

A Haynes manual with instructions on how to remove/re-install is a good idea...~$15 at auto parts shop, such as Autozone, Advance Auto, Oreillys, Pep Boys, etc.

Before you replace the starter, have it checked....Autozone will do it for free...there are other possible problems...flywheel damaged, starter solenoid, battery, etc.
