Question Adaptable Exhaust Systems???

Anyone know if any of the exhaust systems for 93-97 LT1's would fit in a third gen 89 Z28 that has an LT1 swap in it...? Or does anybody know of any that would? Im interested in the $8 billion Borla exhaust but I don't want to spend almost a grand and find out it wont fit haha, thanks.
Any other suggestions or anyone know where to find perf. parts that would fit this?

Re: Adaptable Exhaust Systems???

thats a tough one, dont really know for sure. i would assume that it would fit cause how many different ways are there to mount an exhaust under a camaro. maybe one of these third gen guys can help you out...

www.GMMGinc.com

their chambered exhaust system i know it fits third gens, and even if the coupling from the catback pipe to the exhaust manifolds are a little different, any muffler shop should be able to modify it to work.

Re: Adaptable Exhaust Systems???

ive never bought an exhaust "system" before.. all ive ever bought was a muffler, then I get the muffler shop to bend any piping that I need.. like y-pipes or anything.. Get your engine in, and bring it to a exhaust or performance exhaust shop and they'l make you a new y-pipe that will work with the stock pipe and over axle pipe in your 89' maro.. then stick a muffler at the back with some 3.5" magnaflow chrome tips and your set

The LT1 is in it already, im just putting the new tranny in. I have a T56 on hold right now cant wait. So i just get like a 40 series muffler and bring it in with the car and be like "hey put this on with new piping." and they would? haha im jw, and how much would it cost about?

Re: Adaptable Exhaust Systems???

a good muffler shop should have no problem with that. a bad one will tell you that its not possible...

So i could just walk in with a Flowmaster 40 series (cuz of loudest growl and so on) and tell em to put it on with whatever diameter tubing i want, or whatever the muffler inlet/outlet is? What about the headers or manifold and all? And would it be crazy spendy? cuz i could bend pipes in my metals class and weld and everything...any suggestions?

Re: Adaptable Exhaust Systems???

well if you can do that stuff for free than do it in class. ofcourse, thats only if you have a mandrel bender. you could always get the pipe bent, and then take it to your class and weld it yourself. depends on how much effort you want to put in. dont wanna do work? take it to muffler shop. wanna do lots of work? get pipe bent, weld yourself.

I would actually prefer doing the work myself, plus it would be a guarenteed A in the class for the T56 crossmember I need to make, and then for the exhaust. Im planning on doing one for my truck soon (kinda my guini-pig vehicle) this is the LINK for that if your interested or have any suggestions. I don't think we have a mandrel bender at the shop, but what if I bended them like curvy, so it wouldn't crunch up as much, or would that still not be good? I know I can weld well, it's only the bending im questioning.

Would the rear end of the Borla system, not the cat back, but the section after the Y pipe I think or something with the plates and such fit with minor modifications maybe? Or should I just get the tubing and muffs. and make my own even if its just curved bends? True dual with X pipe? Single to dual tips? What diameter piping? 40 series? What would be best in your preference? I would actually prefer doing the work myself as much as I can without looking up when im done and seeing an exhaust pipe sticking through the windshield or something...haha cuz I could see myself doing that...

Sorry for all these boring questions, it's just that this car and my truck are all I have and I was thinking this forum would be able to help meh out...even though all I have are repetitive questions. My apologies for being the naggy housewife of the forum. lol thanks for the help.
