Rover Metro Idle Problems

the idle is staying high even when the engine is warm. i have no idea what to do to fix the problem. i have looked at the stepper motor and the needle sticks about 2mm out constantly. is this right??? does anyone know how to reset it???
hope someone can help me with this problem as it's starting to drive me mad.

I don't know if it's the same for the Metro but to reset the stepper on the Coupe you turn key to position two so all the lights some on the dash but engine not started. Then fully press and let go of the throttle pedal 8 times within 30 seconds and then I think you either start the engine or take the key out. You could try both.

If the revs NEVER drop to a satisfactory level, you could try adjusting the bolt on the throttle body that sets the idle position. Again, I'm just going by what I know about the coupe, but where the throttle cable fixes to the throtle body, that section rotates, which casues the butterfly inside to rotate, controlling the amount of air. As it returns shut, on the outside there is a bolt that touches a metal plate to stop it shutting any further. The securing nut for this bolt may have become a little loose alowing the bolt's position to move and alter the return distance for the butterfly. Winding the bolt out will reduce the idel and winding it in will increase idle.

it's the same. i did adjust it to a satisfactory level and now i have the problem where:-
when the car is cold the revs are not high enougth but when the car warms up, the revs go higher. so its running great when warm but cr-p when cold.
any idea's???

hmm, sounds like maybe a sensor is knackered. Just need to work out which one. Should be able to work it out logically but I can't think right now. It may be work searching the forums on www.rovertech.net to see if someone else has had a similar problem.I know a lot of the guys on there are into the 200/400/600/800 and the metty gets left out a bit but there are some guys with mettys and a whole load more very knowledgeable people.

have placed the problem on the forum you suggested so we'll see what happens.
i have however noticed that the cold startflap in the air box is not lifting when the car is cold to allow only warm air to enter. surely this would only affect the car when cold though??? the revs seem to get higher as the car gets warmer. it's a bit irish.

got it sorted now. it was the stepper motor needle sticking. just took it apart and cleaned it up with the ever old faithfull WD40.
this stuff works miracles.
