96 rough idle

I have a 96 explorer xlt with 160,xxx miles. It starts and drives great but while idling in park starts to surge and run rough. The service engine light comes on after a few minutes of driving. Any suggestions? I have heard to replace all the o2 sensors, could that be it?

Take to Autozone and have them to read the code for your car, it is free service. Once you know the code than post it here so we know what to do next. Don't assume is 02 sensor without reading the code.

O.K. I got the code read and it is a PO133 (Upstream heated O2 sensor circuit slow response (Bank 1)) So, now the question is, does a 96' V6 have two upstream sensors and if so which one is Bank 1? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are 3 of O2 sensors, I just don't know why Autozone did not help you to locate it. Anyway, bank1 upstream will be located UNDER HOOD, UNDERNEATH DRIVER SIDE, LOWER ENGINE AREA, BELOW EXHAUST MANIFOLD FLANGE, MOUNTED IN EXHAUST PIPE.

Replaced the O2 sensor on the drivers side last night, but the service engine light is still on so I will go get the codes cleared tonight and hope it doesn't come back. Thanks for your help and I'll be around, this site is great.

Got the code cleared and ran for about 20 miles and the chech engine light came back on so back to auto parts store to have it read again.

Had it read again and had the same PO133 code was on it. So I had it cleared and after about 80 miles it came back on again. Anybody had any similar problems, possibly electrical. My next option is a dealer so before that, any suggestions would be appreciated.
