engine swap
Is it possible or rather is it easy to swap a B18C5 engine into my 1990 Honda Civic DX. If it can be done is it more or less take the old one out and drop the new one in, or is there alot of remounting to be done. If it cant be done with the Integra Engine then does anyone Know an Engine that would swap easily?

Re: engine swap
Well if you gonna get the type R motor then go for it! Since you have a DX you need to convert dpfi to mpfi.
Go here for more info....www.hasport.com You will need mounts/shift linkage/cable to hydro tranny conversion kit and if you like you can buy the dpfi to mpfi wiring harness from them. You will also need to get axles with intermediate shaft from them. Everything is all there. Also you will have to convert obd0 to obd2 which isn't that hard but do some research and hopefully you can get an idea. B18c5 is a good choice but it is expensive. But you dont see that many 4th gens with b18c5 in it thats for sure

first of all thanks for the help but what does dpfi, mpfi, obd0 and, obd2 mean? I am very new to even thinking of doing an engine swap so I dont know much of anything. As for the shift linkage and axles can those be taken from the integra or are those a specialty type part? Where can I get the cable to hydro tranny kit? Again thanks for the help.

im not sure if this is what he's talking about but:
dpfi-direct port fuel injection mpfi-multi-port fuel injection pretty much dpfi has one injector feeding the whole engine whereas mpfi has however many cylinder (sometimes for for F/I). As for the different obd's they are just a system of sensors working with you ecu that check on different emission things. ie: Throttle Postion Sensor (tps), O2 sensor, intake temperature sensor..... i hope thats right and helpful |

Thanks I wish I knew as much as the people posting o in this forum! I'll probably have some of my friends help me do it since they actually know alot about mechanics, cuz 5500 is very expensive but then again so is the engine. About the axles and linkage though can they be used from the integra or do they need to be bought new?

Re: engine swap
Just buy the axles from hasport along with the linkage. They'll tell you whats the best set up on the axles.

Instead of getting a cable to hydro tranny kit would it be possible to just take the whole clutch out of an integra and put it in my car?

Re: engine swap
No because cable and hydro trannies have differen't clutch set ups. Just grab the conversion kit. Believe me you'll love the type r trans!

Im seeing everywhere that trying to turbo the B18C5 is very very expensive so I was wondering if there is an engine that I can put into my civic and be able to turbo well for under $5K? Me and a friend are tryin to do an engine swap but he's going v6 on a totaly diff car so as it is his car will be faster.

try putting in a h23 block wit a h22 head and turbo it....its been done on a CRX and the damn thing is a beast...
but your still gonna need all the other changes as well but this change would most likely be cheaper than the B18c5.. (correct me if im wrong) good luck |

Way too much work! Not worth it. If you want to turbo a b18c5 then you have to find a GOOD TUNER since the motor is high compression. I just got done with a heated discussion about this. Some ppl say "oh its not safe" when they dont know what they're talkin about. Many ppl have done this. Look around at www.honda-tech.com. I think theres quite a few ppl runnin this set up. You'll be just as fast or fast on low boost then with someone boosting high on a built motor. Its gonna cost you way over 5g's though. The motor itself cost about 4200 and the turbo kit cost about 2500-4000 depending what kit. You can get it customed if you want. Me bein lazy and all i would just buy the kit. Ditch the fmu and get yourself hondata and TUNE! If you want to go cheaper then get the LS motor which you can find anywhere between 700-1500. |

Instead of the B18C5 I'm gonna do the B16A. If I get the swap kit from http://hmotorsonline.com from an 88-91 SIR1 will I be able to just"drop" it in(after I get new mounts of course), Or will I need to get new wiring, shift linkage, and axles too? What is the diff. between the LSD tranny and the other ones? What about the B16 from the 92-93 Integra XSi, would that be the same in terms of parts needed for the swap or will it need more/less parts. What swap would be easiest to do and mod later on? Thank you so much in advance!
