rear end gearing higher than 3.73 beneficial?

04 5.3. I have the 3.42 gears in my rear end and want to upgrade. Could i get more performance from gears with a higher ratio than 3.73, like the 4.10? Or would it be better for performance and my tranny to go with the 3.73? Thanks
