goodies in the junkyard.

my local junkyard (that i can see from my house) got 2 goodies in this week. A mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4 and a 92-95 civic hatch. The vr-4 is stock but the hatch has a magnaflow exhaust, d16z6 swap, header (not sure what brand), rear upper strut brace, and i dont think the seats are stock (kinda look like racing seats), and a bright orange paintjob. VR-4 is totalled but i was thinkin about maybe gettin the turbos of it and using one and sellin the other. I talked to one of the main guys who works there and he said he want 3k for the vr4 and 1600 for the hatch, which i cant afford. Both need alot of work (body wise and mechanical.) He also offered me a part time job working on the engines and all but i turned it down. I dont know how to work on stuff, i dont have any experience really. He wants to put a turbo engine into the hatch to beat this guy he knows (the kid has a 92-95 Si hatch with a jdm GSR turbo). He was askin what he should put into it (i told him to get a jdm Type R or a jdm H22)and he asked if i could do the work, which i said no to but i referred my friend john who put in our friends engines. But since hes not gonna want the Z6 im thinkin of seeing what he wants for it and the header. And also the turbos off of the VR-4. What do you guys think?

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

Oh yeah and from what i can see, all the hatch needs is a radiator. It also has coilovers and Si Wheels with Falken Azenis'. I forgot about those.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

that civic sounds to good to be in the junkyard ??? why is this in there???

strip the civic, sell the bits you cant use on your EF, buy the turbos and with the money you get from selling the parts put it towards a turbo conversion

Well tell him to get the type r motor and turbo charge that. He'll kill the gsr turbo if the motor is stock.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

Oh but tell him to get it tuned right away. Its very important when it comes to high compression turbo.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

The reason it sounds too good to be in the junkyard is bc they are. He bought them at an auction a lil north from us. He wanted to put the vr-4 motor in his car (i assume he has a 3000gt) and he bought the civic bc its nice. But he doesnt wanna do the swap now, and he may make the hatch a drag/street car. But i may get the Z6, header, and maybe the si wheels w/ the tires. But what im thinking of doing is selling my car and getting an EK hatch. I already found a buyer and told him 2k obo, but i want 2k. And i also found a 97 hatch dx for $4,500 with 103k miles. And if I get the EK i want a B16 at least. But i could still use one of the turbos, and i could sell the header and the Z6. I just gotta see what he wants for em.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

EK hatch is ok. If i was goin to get one i'd definitely convert the looks into jdm. B16 in the EK is SLOOW! I'd go gsr for sure.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

Well any engine i get is gonna be turboed. Plus if I get a b16 i may upgrade to a gsr block later on. And yes it would definately have a jdm feel to it, i like the ctr headlights. It would be kinda like the "Golden Child" hatch in the August issue of import tuner. And that one is not slow. Maybe Ill get a CTR B16.

You're speakin my language! I'd suggest get it NOW! Theres 2 options of you doin this.

1. Find a complete GSR/TYPE R shortblock (400-1300) and find yourself a complete b16 (obd1) head (400-650).B-series tranny usually cost around 400-800. You can grab yourself an LS trans since your goin turbo and they're pretty cheap. Gsr trans would be just fine also.

2. GSR/TYPE R bare blocks (300-800) and build it up slowly. Basically take your time to do it. Still find yourself a complete b16 head and tranny.

When i had my crx i had a complete b16a swap. Then my boy sold me his ITR shortblock with ctr pistons for 1200. All i did is slap my b16a head and tranny and i got myself a type r motor! ITs actually call a poor mans type r cause its much cheaper than buying a whole type r motor. HUGE difference! If it was me i'd do option 2. But its up to you

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

yeah, i like option 1 more. Im not looking into building a full blown race motor, just something to beat peoples asses with. So I may get a B16 in it (if i get an EK) for now with headwork and run like 7 psi. Then later get some 9:1 pistons with a blockguard in it and run a good amount of boost. Or get the gsr block with those internals and of course headwork. I dont think im gonna get stg 1 or higher cams. I think Id just get CTR cams with port and polishing and maybe upgrade the springs with a 3 angle valve job. I dont know, i dont even have the car yet. Well see what happens when I get the car. All i know is that the outside will be mostly stock except for a lip, cf hood, and a spoiler. And of couse I want boost.

ok change of plans. Hell no to the vr4 turbos. He wants $600 for each turbo. He also wont part out the hatch, so no z6 and no header. I also thought about it and i dont really want a new car right now, i gotta save up for college and i also wanna keep a fast quick car that beats people easily instead of a heavy hatch. I guess im stayin 4g4d for a longer time than i thought.

Re: goodies in the junkyard.

i can get t4's for $400 - so ya he would be screwing you on the turbos they cost $1835 for a brand new one -plus ya dont know what kind of condition they are in even if it seems like the car runs fine.... i would just go with a aftermarket - cus it opens the door for you to do more things an plus it will be cheaper in the long run
