Air suspension failures

Im having problems with my air suspension. At first the warning light came on and it kept blowing the fuse, so i decided to replace it with a cicuit breaker. It still came on but the pump still worked. Then we thought that the shocks may have been the problem because the car bounced alot- they needed to be replaced anyhow. We havent done this yet but we do have the parts... just need to get aorund to it. But Tuesday night (9/14) , the suspension of the car just gave out and dropped all the way down on my mother when shew as driving. Yesterday (9/15) i was driving and it did the same thing. If the car is shut off and then turned back on, the problem seems to correct itself. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on here? PLease contact me asap because i need my car!

Shocks only help ride and are not a means of support. The Air suspension is what keeps the car off the ground.

Do you believe that the Air suspension is original?

If it is the that would require replace of all the components which are , Air compressor, Solenoids and the 2 air springs. This is an easy task and should only take a few hours.

Here are some articles to teach you on how it works and how to pinpoint the problem,

Re: Air suspension failures

no matter what, the shocks must be replaced, but the air suspension is original. me and my father were looking at it and we didnt know about the solenoids in the back end so we are going to take those off and take a look at them. we believe the comressor to be good because we had it all apart and it looked pretty good. most parts on this car are still in excellent condition because it was a complete wreck when we bought it and we rebuilt it with only 30,000 miles on it. this was in '99. but anyways im hoping that my prob is something simple

Re: Air suspension failures

I agree with ltdltc, you are probably looking at replacing the rear air bags and the compressor at least. Usually don't have too many problems with the solenoids so I wouldn't bank on that being the problem. Whatever you do look into the situation now because delaying usually costs you more in the end. A few places to start looking are:

Re: Air suspension failures

I just got myself a 91 for a song and a dance because the air suspension light was on and the ass end was dragging and the owner didnt want to mess with it. I checked the relay on the pass. side under the hood and one of the terminals was toast. I put in a new relay and I watched the back go right up. Its been working all week, knock on wood.
