Ok, here's the scenario. I have a 2000 Grand Am with 67k miles (2.4L engine). When the engine's cold it starts fine and you can drive for maybe 20-30 mins, and then it stalls and will not restart. You can let it set for 15-20 mins, and it will restart and drive for maybe another 15-20 and it stalls again. I suspected ignition module, so the next time it did that, i pulled over, removed the top cover and module, and cooled the module off with water, and put it together and it started right up. I did it three times to make sure that was the problem, and went and spent $149 on a new ignition module. Everything was fine and dandy and i took it out for about an hour and a half to make sure it was good, and didnt have any problems. Then, after about an hour and 45 mins it did it AGAIN!. Same symptoms, same solution. Is there something that can cause this module to fail that i'm not thinking of? Coil pack bad? I tried the same thing on the cam position sensor but it didnt effect anything (still would not restart). The motor turns over and sounds as if it is slightly trying and sometimes will sputter for a second and die. Every time this happens, i turn the key on and the fuel pump kicks in so i know it's not that b/c it still doesnt start. Very aggrevating!!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance - Chris

I've had the same problems with my 96 Grand Am (About 119k miles) starts up fine when its cold, but after it gets hot, it'll stall and won't restart. I've changed coil packs, module, everything under the sun.
I think it's more of a fuel delivery problem, I would check your fuel regulator and fuel pump (my fuel pump also kicks in when i turn the key, but at this point, I wouldn't count anything out) |

Re: 2000 Grand am stalls after warmed up
Check and see if you have fuel pressure when this is happening, just because the fuel pump is running doesn't mean it's building up pressure. My .02 cents.
