Angry 1996 ford ranger fuel gauge

im so frustrated. i have a 96 ranger xlt and the fuel gauge doesnt work. it shows E. if you unplug the sending unit it goes to f like it is supposed to. but when you ground it, it will only go down to E when you turn off the switch and then turn it back on. i replaced the gauge and the sending unit checked out fine when i did an ohm check. voltage drop on everything checks out yet it still wont work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: 1996 ford ranger fuel gauge

im having the same problem, i have a few other things to worry about first, so far im just watching my milage to tell how much gas i have, my first guess on mine is that when i put the bed back on i pinched the wires or something, i havent investigated it as you have just yet

fixed problem

i found out what the problem with mine was
i dropped the tank for a second time to inspect the sending unit and found that the float was not floating. this could be due to me not driving it that much but im not too sure. I just drilled a hole and emptied out the gas that was in the float. i then soldiered it back up and held it under water for a while and looked for bubbles. since i didnt see any i put it all back together and it has been working fine ever sinde. i hope this helps you a little bit.
