Removing ignition switch on 2002 ford focus...

Hi, need to remove ignition switch on my 2002 ford focus.Ignition switch is froze up. Does this require taking off steering wheel? And if so, do i need to disarm the air bag? Please help! Thanks James

are you removing the switch or the key cyl. ?

The key cylinder actually. I did get it to turn, but can't find the removal button to pull it out.

remove the upper and lower column shrouds to gain access - remove the pats trasceiver that mounts around the cylinder and the release button will be exposed

I have a 2000 ZX3 and I also need to remove and replace the ignition switch cylinder. I removed the top and bottom covers aound the steering column and the pats trasceiver that mounts around the cylinder. I tried pushing in the release button but it was not going all the way in and was not able to pull out the cylinder. Do you know or have any info on the procedures needed to remove the cylinder. If you do I'll be greatly appreciated.

while pushing the release button - turn the key to the on position - this should allow the button to move all the way in.
