Repla CV Half-Shaft Assy, left, right, what?
Hey all, I have a 1989 HONDA CIVIC LX 1.5L Auto and I'm trying to replace the CV axle, and I'm purchasing from partsamerica.com
But it's asking for which side, Front Left; or Front Right How do I know which side is for my car? The longer shaft seems to be on the drivers side, and the shorter shaft has most stuff on it is on the passengers side. So I'm assuming I should get the Front Right assembly, is that correct? The boots are ripped and the clicking is really annoying. Thanks for advice. Yeah I searched, lots of info on axles but not which side, which i needed, thanks! |

boots
well, you said both boots was torn,
so your gonna have to do both sides anyway, just buy 2 axel boots(outer boots),start with one side, take everything off,rotor/caliber,outer cage (with a hammer), untill you get to the cv joint, take out each ball, clean it up make shore there aren't any cracks,burrs... if there is,replace that part, pack the boot & joint with the grease (supplied),tighten the clamps, put everything back together, its real simple, but a dirty job, the mechanics at a shop charge,80.00 an hour & it takes 2.1 hours to do it!(240.00-no way) but the best way to replace axels is get one from a junk yard that has no play in the axel area!,just take off & put on,easy as that, hope you have good luck with this!

I was thinking of replacing the whole thing because it's been a long time since the clicking started. And I just figured the whole thing gotta be busted by now. But thanks a lot for that suggestion, I will look into the local junkyards. My brother just recently replaced his axle on his MX6, I'll turn to him if I have any problems. Thanks again. |

Re: Repla CV Half-Shaft Assy, left, right, what?
yea no need to just replace the boots. Once the clicking starts, the joints/axles are junk. Just save time and hassle and buy the whole axle assembly. Only like 60 per side plus warranty for remanufactures (depends on where you get them.)
