88 t-bird computer swap

new user here, I've been looking in to swapping the engine computer out of my 5.0 thats the stock for the t-bird with a computer for the 5.0 mustang of the same year. My bird has an automatic trans. does this matter, and will this work. A guy I work with builds and races dragsters and he seems to think it would'nt hurt. I dont want to damage the motor. Does anyone have any idea, good or bad.
