Need Advice Re Problems With My 2004 525i

I bought a new 2004 525i on 7/2/04. It has been in the shop 3 times since for a total of approximately 18 days with software and various other problems, cup holer problems, rattling, fabric on the pillars falling off, etc.. (I also receveied a recall notice last night indicating BMW has a "Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign to Update ON-Board Diagnostic Software" (Campaign No. 04E-A02). Is anyone else having problems with their new 5-series? I met a guy at the dealership when I took my car in last week who had been there 4 times with his new 530i and was screaming at the top of his lungs about the problems--not a nice start to the morning) The dealer (in North Hollywood) left me a message indicating that they don't have all the parts to fix my car (after 8 days), as some are on back order, but they want me to pick up my car anyway!

Any insight would be appreciated...

They should re schuedel an appointment for when they get the parts in. But alota these new 5 and 7 series have alot of electrical programming problems such as yours. Now the cup holder, they do usually have their problems but most of the time its owner error. The fabric on the pillars falling off is the factors fault and should be replaced free of charge on your car.

Hi Black525i:

I live in the Atlanta, GA area, and I am sorry to hear about your problems with your new 04 525i.

I purchased a new 04 530i along with a 7yr/100,000mile Fidelity extended warranty, and so far my 2004 530i is doing great, (I have not got a BMW recall yet).

I was wondering the following:

1) Does your BMW dealer give you a free loaner car to use while yours is in the BMW shop?

2) Did you purchase "the lemon law" with your new Bimmer?

3) How many miles do you have on your 525i?

In conclusion: I wish you the very best in getting you problems resolved, so you can get back enjoying your new "Chris Bangle" five series!

Sincerely,
Presley348

Re: Need Advice Re Problems With My 2004 525i

I have had my 2004 bmw 525i since January and have had it in the shop 7 times. Each cup holder has had to be replaced, passenger restraint module error has shown up twice, passenger window has given me problems twice, radio went out and orb was replaced and I also received the "Voluntary Emissions Recall Notice" . I love my car but am beginning to believe I bought a lemon. The service manager was in contact with BMW rep, but all they will do is replace the modules this time instead of just reprogramming computer.
I thought when I purchased such a highly rated vehicle I would not be having so much trouble...sort of embarrassed to say where my car is ...

My thoughts. While I still don't believe the first model introduction cars have always had 'teething' problems do to, I think, to BMW's continuing philosophy of making the consumer and dealer technicains, the "Finalizing Engineers". While not as bad in the '80s [much simpler cars] it's been going on too long considering the Japanese competition for years and yes, I understand Mercedes, VW and Audi suffer the same problems. Good news that the majority of the problems are, eventually fixed. The bad news is it often effects resale value.......
