Question Can a CAI installation cause computer problems?

Hopefully some of you might have some insight since the CAI seems to be one of the most common conversions. I recently installed an SLP cold air box on my 1998 Grand Prix. It works fine, but when I installed it, there was barely any room for the computer to fit inside. I had to shove it in there forcefully, and there wasn't enough room for all those little shock absorbtion pads.

My question is, could going over bumpy roads now cause me to be having computer glitches? My transmission seems to be acting up and I'm wondering if it's my fault for shoving that PCM in there when it didn't fit right.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could take it somewhere that they have a scan tool and see if there are any tranny codes stored. It probably isn't very good for the computer to be forced into an area it wasn't designed for, expecially with no shock protection. It could also be the wiring harness, if it was forced into place some wires may have been pulled on causing a bad connection.

Re: Can a CAI installation cause computer problems?

I have the Thrasher air box. The PCM goes UNDER the box. Rides on a foam pad to take up shocks. Box attaches to a box that sets over PCM. Don't like the SLP or stock box because it cuts off a lot of air in the box. Plus I run a 10" cone filer.
Good luck

Thanks. I have to say that the SLP design really sucked because it just couldn't accomodate the PCM very well. But I bought it b/c I had the SLP hood and figured it would line up best. I don't think that the wires are stretched tight or anything.

I was just wondering if anyone's experienced the same thing with the SLP airbox, and if you did, how did you handle it? Did it cause any problems?

Re: Can a CAI installation cause computer problems?

I have the SLP box. I too had a tough time getting the PCM situated inside. Had to loosen one wire harness to get enough slack to permit me to close the lid. Haven't had any other problems.

if you haven't already done so take the computer out and check each wire that goes into it to make sure that none of them have been pulled loose. if there all ok then like 86tatpi said you should probebly get it scanned.
