Exclamation 95 blazer "service engine soon"

I have a 95 s-10 blazer, recently the "service engine soon" light comes on. Sometimes it is on and sometimes it isn't on. Is there anything that I could change (oil...etc..) that will make this light go off, or is it something more wrong with it than that to make this light come on. Is there a reset button to push to get this to go off? Just wondering... Thanks for your help.
Heather

Re: 95 blazer "service engine soon"

Hello Heather,

You have what is called a soft code. It could be something as mundane as a little carbon stuck in the pintle of the EGR or it could be a bad O2 Sensor that is not up to snuff.

You could try a tuneup if you haven't had one done in a while (plugs, cap, rotor and maybe wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv and an oil change). However, there are places such as Autozone that will scan your car for free. If it were me, I would have it scanned first, then go from there.

Good Luck!

Yes, go to AutoZone and get it scanned for free and coe back here with the EXACT computer code they give you.

Don't just take what they say, we need the actual code.

Blazer

Thanks so much..... do I just bring my blazer up to them and they can scan it there, or is there a specific part I have to take off my blazer and bring it into them to scan?
Thanks for all the help,
Heather W.

I am having the same thing happen on my 2000 Blazer 4x4. Not only the service engine light, but when I pulled into work, the gas guage went down, the lights flashed, the led for the gear went kooky. I took it to Autozone today and had it scanned. They came up with codes:

P0740 - Torque conveter clutch circuit...something or other

and

P1860 - transmission transfer case contact plate "D" short circuit

What's up with that? I haven't noticed any shiftiing problems (automatic) but I figure that's like having a hole in the back of your head - just because you don't notice it doesn't mean it's not there.

Does this sound like an expensive repair? Maybe an exorcism?
