Synthetic Oil????

i got a s-10 about 6 months ago and i just changed the oil in it. i just drove it for the first time today since i did the oil. i put in regular 5w-30. i here these weird noises i never heard b4. i had a guy listen to it he said i need a valve job. but i hear a pissing sound sitting inside. i was wondering if the last owner used Synthetic Oil. what would be some signs if that was the case. how could i tell. i dont know who the last person was, i got it from a shop dealer. its a 1995 with 115k miles 5 speed, if you can help me out that be great, thanks

Pissing sound? You mean like water running?

Re: Synthetic Oil????

It shouldn't matter if they did use synthetic oil. You can even mix oils if you have too, although I try not to

if the noise wasnt there before you changed the oil odds are good that someone put thick oil (80 - 90w) in the engine to hide a knocking noise.

Re: Synthetic Oil????

and by doing this the truck would run fine, and he could sell it easy? would that have any effect on the motor being that weight oil?

Re: Synthetic Oil????

I'm suddenly thinking that if there is a BAD vacume leak it might be mistaken as a pissing sound, and it might run like crap.

If there is that bad of an internal leak that you can hear it sitting inside then you would probably have oil in the water, or water in the oil... or one of them would be empty quickly.

A friend of mine just re-built his motor, and was silly enough to not change the cam, or lifters... so he has lifter noise...

Because of his limited budget I sugested just adding Engine Restore (in a silver can) and it seems to help...

That might have been done to your truck before you bought it.

Re: Synthetic Oil????

Well lckycharm713, you might be able to adjust the valves yourself.. or even buy your mechanic a six pack. if that doesn't work why not try Engine Restore, or something more affordable. It sure can't hurt anything.

If there is a bad vacume leak it might even be all your trouble, and they usually aren't that hard to find. Spray WD40 around the intake manifold, throttle body, vacume lines, brake booster, etc.
When you reach any vacume leak the motor will usually rev up.

Good luck

Re: Synthetic Oil????

I think someone put in thick oil to cover a problem until the truck was sold.

Can you answer my previous questions.

Does that noise sound like gurgling water?
