dent resistant=plastic
why would anyone buy a plastic car? there only dent-resistant because they break at any speed above 5 mph. They get great gas mileage but so do other cars that are made of metal. At least with metal you can fix a panel with a dent-puller or even a hammer. Please convince me of why i should buy one of these peices of crap.

doubt
no one wants to give it a try? That's what i thought, there is no reason to buy a saturn over buying many other kinds of cars that are more reliable, cost the same, and aren't made of "dent-resistant" or PLASTIC panels while still getting the same or BETTER gas mileage. I bet there won't be any responses cause there is no way to respond except "gee, he's right!"

If you don't want a "plastic car," then don't bother buying one.

Actually the Saturns rate equal to if not better than most other cars in the side crash test ratings and the frontal crash tests. So they're safe and they don't get dents as easily... but you're right that was a stupid thing for Saturn to do.

Re: dent resistant=plastic
I have been doing wreck rebuilds for years and highly recommend the plastic body panels. They are tougher than you think. I have reused parts from wrecks that would have been totally destroyed if they were metal. Not only saturns but many cars now have body panels made from plastic (caddilac, cameros, olds, etc.) This is progress. Anything will break, but pvc can take more than sheet metal.

Re: dent resistant=plastic
I just had to reply to this. I used to make fun of plastic cars until I got my Saturn. It is almost 10 years old with 112K and looks brand new. No joke. Anyway, new cars have hardly any metal on them. Have you looked inside a new car of any type lately? Every interior piece is plastic and breaks way too easy. I joke about my plastic car but I love it anyway.

Re: dent resistant=plastic
One reason to get a car with plastic panels is they won't rust there.

Re: dent resistant=plastic
I have to agree with pretty much everything you see above. There are a lot of reasons to buy a plastic car but let's start off with the important things first. The fact that most of the Saturn is made of plastic isn't necessarily the reason you buy the car. It's just one of the things that appeals to some people to make the car a more attractive purchase. I never liked Saturns either but they're reliable, fuel efficient, fairly roomy, and pretty safe. Sure, so are hondas, but Hondas are a lot pricier than Saturns. Anyway, onto the plastic panels themselves. (I rant a lot). Sure, they crush at over 5 MPH but how many times do you wack things at over 5 MPH. Most of the abuse from my car comes from my 5 y/o swinging the door into things, me whacking the other door w/ the infant seat, a carriage in a parking lot, me tripping and falling into it. All of these are things that the doors in my Nissan (98 Altima) DO NOT stand up to very well. These panels don't rust, they don't scratch as much, they seem to hold their luster far longer, they don't get as many swirl marks and when you do have to replace them, they're a lot cheaper than those steel ones. My mother has an 01 Pontiac, for some reason, the corrosion stuff they put on it failed and they had to fix a rust spot (warranty). What that came out to was about 150% of an entire Saturn door panel. I haven't had this car long, but if I got to go to a dealer, and choose steel or plastic door panels...i'd go for the plastic

Re: dent resistant=plastic
i have to agree. i hit a deer doin 70 with my 94 sc2 and all it did was peel paint off the bumper. try hitting a deer with any other car and see what u get. a big bill for damages. i have hit three in my lifetime, and the one i hit with my saturn was the least expensive by a long shot. thanks for trying dualshot but you cant go wrong with dent resistant sides no fuckin dents. its great. bye.
