New I guess....

I know this sounds like a little kids post, and in a sense it is. Im 15 and I have a car...of course I cant drive it for another year 391 days...that means I have a full year to work on it...the car is a 95 TALON and i know close to nothign about it or what I can do with it. Id appreciate any and all information on what to know, what to watch for, and what I should do first...please remember that I am a first-time driver and I dont know near as much as I would like about cars so be paitent if I sound totally stupid. Thanks Alot!

Re: New I guess....

Find out what model the Talon is, either TSI (turbo) or ESI (non-turbo) and once you've established that then take a long time to read and learn about your particular such as what parts are in it, what makes them work and why and what can you do to improve the car and performance! gl

Re: New I guess....

yeah dude read, read, read.. then read some more.. find a few dsm message boards and jus take in everything you can.. that way if you ever have a problem you might remember somthin you read and have a lot easier time of fixing it (happens alot for me) if your wanting to start modding the car now and in the next year thats cool you can take your tie with it... but if i was in your situation if i didnt have a job id find one stocking shelves or somethin and save as much money as i could.. if you slowly mod it over a year your prolly end up with a bunch of moderatly priced small mods.. but if you save your money all year you could buy one huge mod like a turbo kit or somethin if its a esi... oh and you might try the sticky thread entitled (read this first" or somthing and read up on all the reference sites too.. theres a wealth of dsm knowledge out there for you to obsorb. peace

Like the others said, reading is the key of understanding. I would start with the FAQ's. Once you got a basic understanding, you can apply it to the actual car by working on it. Make sure you know how to do the basics first before you jump to bigger things (oil change before turbo install) .

This is also a suggestion, IMO i wouldnt mod the car alot the 1st year you drive it. Keep in mind that you are a new driver and if you (God forbid), crash your modded car, then your in trouble. I would say that use the 1st year to become a confident driver, along with some basic mods (Intake, spark plugs & wires, ect.)

Good Luck!
