Exhaust is making a popping noise
I have a 95 Jimmy, I got a new muffler this past January and a new catalytic converter in April, and for the past 2 months or so, when I first start driving it, after 30 seconds I hear like a metal popping noise coming from the exhaust and then I hear it again every few minutes or so. I had Midas check it, and they couldn't find any leaks or anything. Also, when I shut it off, it makes the noise a few minutes later. I'm thinking it's expanding or something...I don't know, anyone have any ideas? It's driving me nuts! Thanks!

Re: Exhaust is making a metal popping noise
Oh, lol.
The metallic ticking noise is the exhaust system expanding and contracting with heat. Completely normal and absolutely nothing to worry about. Mine does it to.

Re: Exhaust is making a metal popping noise
I'm thinking it is the Metal expanding and contracting due to the heating up/cooling off. I would think by now it should have stopped. As long as it's not leaking anywhere, it shouldn't be a problem.

You're right again. My 2000 Jimmy is still doing it. Thanks for setting the record straight. Now I'm hearing the blasted pops and creeks.

Re: Exhaust is making a metal popping noise
Think of it as your truck singing the tune of being up to proper operating temperature.
