my new toy.....the lava lamps!

O.K......It's a bit geeky...but last week I must have had a rush of blood to the head

For some reason I just wanted to go shopping. Not 'guy' shopping....(need something,go to shop, buy it)more 'girlie' shopping...(go to town just to look, come back with something interesting, but fairly useless)...but in a 'guy' sort of way...(hardware stores...2nd hand shops...dealer parts depts.etc).

Well I went into Cash Converters...and as usual..there were heaps of last month's trendy items......including a whole shelf of lava lamps! Now normally,I would find such a big collection of naff items hilarious, but they were all plugged in and going...I was TRANSFIXED! I just had to have one! I chose a really funky looking silver rocket with green oil,and asked the guy in the shop...He gave me a look that said.. crazy man on the loose and told me that he hadn't sold one in weeks and was using them for display only.....he opened a drawer and it was like,FULL of the damn things....only$10 each....in original boxes....

So now I have two.....one red,one green..

Lava lamps and fish........

Both are transfixing if you stop and watch them. The cool thing about lava lamps is that they don't have to be fed!!!!

I pretty much did the same thing yesterday, only my stops were all at antique shops. I found my wife 5 little real old blue bottles to add to her collection. I'm going to give them to her for valentines day. I didn't find anything I couldn't live without , but at least I found something unique for Valentines day, and didn't wait till the last minute to do it !!! (for a change)

I haven't set my lava lamp back up yet...I got one for Christmas a few years ago....
damned thing always sets me to sleep....I can be wide awake and the next second out cold if i turn that lava lamp on!
I was planning on putting mine in the computer room.....as this is the 'non-themed' room of our house, living room: Oriental Theme, Bedroom: art-deco black/white/grey, computer room: odd things picked up in travel theme

$10 ???? Wow they are pretty popular in the states and go for about $40. But then again, what is $10NZ in USD? Mine is silver with purple oil. I havent turned it on in awhile cuz it gets pretty hot and I have a nosy dog who can't leave a darned thing alone. I don't have a problem watching it and having it put me to sleep. Watching my fish puts me to sleep :o

maybe...but look at this..

Live Rates as of 2002.02.12 03:53:21 GMT.
40.00 USD
United States Dollars = 95.4180 NZD
New Zealand Dollars
1 USD = 2.38545 NZD 1 NZD = 0.419208 USD

So Kat would have to pay NZ$95 for a lamp that cost me 10 bucks!

I'M HAPPY WITH THAT DEAL....:flash: :flash: :flash: :flash:

if only i could find a lava lamp smiley! :lavalamp:
