Question 97 Service Engine

Hey guys, I went to the Autozone yesterday to get a service engine light checked out, and they ran the machine on it and found out that there was a misfire in the 5th cylinder I think he said. A couple questions. 1. Is this a big problem? 2. What would be needed to fix it? 3. What would cause something like this?

Thanks guys.

Re: 97 Service Engine

A misfire could trigger the cars computer on initial start up. Run it for a few days and see if it comes back. You might also want to check the plug wire goin to #5 cylinder along with pulling the spark plug to make sure it is alright. good luck

if this is the 3100 engine, take it in to a shop and get the injectors cleaned...stuff you dump in the tank wont do it. The other post about a plug and wire is good also. Check these first.

1997 Lumina - Service Engine Light Flashing

I bought a Used 1997 Lumina in August 2004. It was serviced and emission tested the day I bought it.

The problem started with the car vibrating. Then I noticed that the Service Engine Light was flashing. This happened 2 days running.

Can someone help please??? Has this happened to anyone before? What is the cause and the solution?

Need to get the code read (light flashing means code being set for malfunction) and see where that points you. Without that info, you're shooting blind. Probably going to be a misfire issue, though. (plug, wire, coil)
