Tire life span is dependant on many things. Treadwear rating, traction rating, car weight, driving habits, road conditions and suspension alignments among other things. "regular street tires" are engineered mainly for treadlife and a second thought, traction. "Racing" tires are more engineered for maximum traction and car response and control. And as a second thought is treadlife.

It's all about what's important to you but I think that's rather obvious when you consider a $40 70 series tire with a treadwear of 500 or a $150 Zrated low pro tire with treadwear rating of 100. What do you think each one was designed for?
