Jacques Back ?

Mild Seven Renault F1 Team Managing Director Flavio Briatore commented:

"We have reached an agreement for Jacques to test for the team at Silverstone on Wednesday and Thursday. This test might lead to Jacques joining the team for the final three races of the season beginning next week at the Chinese Grand Prix."

Re: Jacques Back ?

Better not be back. Would be a step backwards.

Though perhaps the break may have done him some good?

Step backwards for who? Sounds like a no lose situation for everybody. Somebody has to fill Truli's spot, may as well be a big name that will generate publicity. Jacques gets to see if he can still cut it and stake a claim for a drive next year. I'd expect him to officially retire if he can't keep Alonso in sight. Anyway at this point it is still just a test, not a confirmed race seat. Although Britore isn't keen on Montagny and nobody else has been suggested...

Re: Jacques Back ?

And this announcement comes less than 24 hrs after Renault vehemently denied they aree looking to drop trulli, going to test JV or that he's at the factory for a seat fitting or is expected there.

Bring him back, let's see how he pans out against Alonso. JV will be at a major disadvantage, though, because he's not familiar with the car and has been away from racing, and the Chinese circuit being new to everyone could either even things out or play even more into Alonso's hands.

Hey, what happened to the oath that if Button beats him he'd leave F1? Had to be dragged out and is still trying to come back for more.

Re: Jacques Back ?

Hey Alex you should know by now a vehement denial is almost as good as a confirmation in F1. I don't recall Jacques making quite that oath. Perhaps he now figures that assuming he is half as good a Jenson on a bad day and two teams want Jenson, then maybe at least one will want Jacques?

Agree it will be a tall order for him to look anything close to competent in such a short time frame. But on the other hand drivers often do their best under such pressure circumstances. For example Mika Salo did very well at times subbing for Schumacher in 1999.

Trulli and Renault part ways with immediate effect

Quote:
Flavio Briatore: "Once again, we would like to thank Jarno for his contribution to the team over the past three years. The team and Jarno feel that an early separation will allow both parties to conclude the year in the most positive way."

Jarno Trulli: "I am very comfortable with this decision. I would like to thank Renault for their support since 2002, and for the success we enjoyed together. I am grateful to the team for releasing me from my obligations, which will give me the opportunity to start with my new team sooner than expected."
Phil, teams usually say no comment or refuse to deny or confirm the rumours in such cases. Renault spokesperson though pretty much said all the rumours are BS. Not nice, especially on some journalists.

Well I haven't seen the quote in question so can't really comment on this particular occasion. However you surely can think of many occasions where similar denials have truned out to be true. Like last year when Brawn and others denyed Ferrari and Bridgestone questioned the legality of Michelin's tyres after Hungary...

Re: Jacques Back ?

I certainly don't remember Brawn denying that, I remember quite the opposite, in fact. Trying to start shit slinging again?

Me starting, starting what? I'm trying to be nice (and will continue to do so). You are the ones hanging "shit" on Jaques and Renault.
