Skyline Engine Drop Complications

Hey all, Well yes I read the newbie post stuff, but I'm not one of these dreamers that wish they could get the parts. I live in Japan, and can get any Skyline stuff I want, anytime I want. So lets get down to my questions. I want to bring back a RB25DET. Is this engine my best choice? I want to buy a 95-96 240sx and put the engine in it. I already have a Kakimoto turbo exhaust and a Greddy Cold Air intake made for this engine. Is my RB25DET exhaust going to work on this car??? I actually drive a Skyline, but I'm not ripping the engine out of my car . Now, I'm going to be bringing back an engine and 5-speed tranny also. Now, when I go to drop this bad boy in what major complications might I run into??? I know the motor mounts aren't going to line up. Do they make a conversion kit or are we talking about welding on new motor mounts??? I can do all this work myself. I have all sorts of friends that are into cars and a full garage to do the work at. So any input would be helpful?? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into.................. Thanks all.......

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

There fitment kits, but most of the other regulars know them by heart, I've just heard them talking about them, anyway, if given the choice I think I would go for the RB26 over the RB25, but the RB25 has more aftermarket support and cheaper. Damn could you get me a set of R33 headlights?????

I'm pretty sure the RB26 has more aftermarket support.

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

Actually no, the RB25 has more cuz it's been out alot longer, and especially for us where anything JDM sky rockets the price, the 25 is the cheaper option than the 26, also siince it's been out longer, there are more in the salvage yards, etc.
Also, with it being the newer version, parts and support for this engine is going to be more.

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

actually, i believe the rb26 has been out longer. it was out since the gt-r r32 while the rb25 didnt come out untill the gt-s edition of the skyline.

unless the rb25 also came in the gt-s4 version of the skyline.

Logik is right, the RB26 came out earlier cause the R32 had the RB20 and RB26 and the R33 and R34 had the RB25 and RB26.

Ahhhh yes but the RB25DET is soooooo much easier to find . The RB26DETT is also alot more expensive. I know, I go to the junkyards all the time.

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

The Rb25 Was Also In The R32's, Stageas, And Laurels....

You Have To Remember They Also Put Rb20's In Stageas, Cefiros, Laurels, 200zrs, And All The R31 And Up Skylines....

The Rb26 Can Be Found In The Stagea, R32, R33, And R34 Skylines Only.

The Rb26 Has By Far Way More Support Than The Other Two, We Even Have Us Companies Building Internals On A Mass Scale To Sell In Japan And Australia.

they do make an adapter kit for the drop into a 240. I cant recall the company that makes it off the top of my head. you can get more info from club240.com forums. you will also have to get a custom driveshaft, the s14 shaft wont work with the skyling trans. and i do believe you may need a different rear differntial, but im not 100% sure on that one

ok heres my 2 pennies

OK.. you need a LSD for the RB25DET, you need a Driveshaft with the right length and right yoke size, I have heard of problems with the Oil Pan hitting the Front Crossmember in an S13 but nothing o an S14 you need to lengthen 2-3 Wires on the Wiring Harness to reach the ECU on the LHD car... I know all this because im doing the swap in a year or year and a half because im 16 and have to save up and dont have the luxury and living in Skyline Land overseas... anyways you can find everything the motor mounts, drive shaft, Wiring Harnesses, Oil pan.
try
www.McKinneyMotorsports.com adn then click "Sale"
they have everything you need. They will even install it if you please.

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

Actually check the FAQ I think it had some listing of the motor mount kits. You don't need a different Rear end but it is advisable to get an LSD. Mckinney did an RB25 swap, and theres was one of the cleanest I've seen, it shouldn't be that much harder to go with the RB26, but I do hear that you have to go with the RB25 oil pan. Check the FAQ and old threads, this question comes up alot.

Re: Skyline Engine Drop Complications

you cant fit a RB motor in a Aspec 200SX. a Jspec 200SX (American 240SX) is another story. the Aspec 200SX is FWD, and it would be too much work to convert it to RWD just to put a skyline motor in it
