2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
THe duramax diesel is chipped with an intake and 4 inch exhaust. It dynoed @ 350whp and 660ftlb. I think it would be pretty close, but maybe the diesel would need the aftermarket injectors, and maybe propane injection. Any guesses to what might happen?

I don't know why you would want to race those two and not another diesel, but the Lightning would win by alot even with all the mods depending what chip you use it would still only put the duramax 0-60 to about low to mid sevens.

The duramax has ran a 14.2 with a slipping clutch. 0-60 in the sevens? Did you forget about the 4 wheel drive 600lb torque launch? All the horsepower in the diesel is around 2000rpm's. People underestimate the power of a diesel especially when its in a big truck. What do lightnings typically run?

Re: 2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
I saw it on Trucks a 2500 four door duramax with egde chip and exhaust for the 0-60 time. In the 1/4 mile Lightning usually run low to mid thirteens. Yes, I do agree diesels in general have a huge amount of power, but against smaller sport trucks especially the Lighting they are to heavy unless you do some serious upgrades. That were inj
ecters, propane and turbos come in.

Re: 2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
But.....put a 6000 pound trailer behind each one, and the Lightning gets spanked.

Re: 2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
^^ Generally people don't run 1/4 with a 6000 lb trailer.

How about switch out that Lightning for a '03 powerstroke and then see who gets spanked, but he has a point about the trailers.

I know, I know, shouldn't have mentioned the trailer thing. I was temporarily possessed.

The diesel vs. diesel debate could go on as long as the sr20det vs. ka24de(t) thread. This a race the duramax owner was hoping to run.

Re: 2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
well theres really no comparison here. The duramax needs credit where its due. the numbers on em are mind boggling, specialy coming from chevy, we sell alot of em here at the dealership, BUT theres no comparison as to what wuld happen in a race between the two....ford lighting by a mile, duramax doesnt run anywhere close to the stock high 13s that a lightning runs

Even though you dont run a 1/4 mile with a 6k trailer..the duramax would spank it, if that was the case. Not a bad point. I think though the lightning vs a duramax is a lil unfair...what about daramax vs dodges cummins or fords powerstroke if you want to stick with ford...wonder who would win that one, my moneys on the duramax in both cases...last thing i gotta ask though is, when was the last time you saw a duramax at a drag strip...seen alot of 1/2 ton and 3/4 tone pick ups and surburbans but have yet to see a disel at the local strip..ther mainly used for tow not drag racing. but being original is what makes the world interesting, otherwise honda wouldnt have made it this far in the drag racing world |

Re: 2002 duramax diesel vs. 2002 ford lightning
If you go to Mopar events or WFC(world ford challange) events you'll see diesels run the 1/4. Most of them are modified runing 13-14's seconds some get down in to the 11's. Stock for stock my money is on the powerstroke followed pretty close by the cummins then the duramax. The powerstroke might not have the most rated torque but in every magazine i've read were they put the trucks head to head it wins.
Modified it's pretty much anybodies game, but I lean a little more towards the cummins because it has been around longer so there are more parts like turbo and even twin turbos kits for them. |
