85 LeSabre Trouble codes

When I try to get the codes it just blinks 12 over and over. I am still not getting brake lights.

Talking answer...

Okay, first of all, when you check the trouble codes, code 12 will always be set. It is NOT an error code, it just lets you know that the computer is properly functioning. As for the brake lights, I would seggest pulling the paneling off from under the dash where the pedals are. There is are two switchers on the brake pedal. Check to be sure that they are both working (probe the back of the connector with a test light to find out. one will be hot at all times, one never, and one should turn on and off when you push the pedal down.). If the switch is fine, check the wiring to the brake lights. they will flip up when you remove the carpet behind them in the trunk, and unscrew them. If you have power, check the connetor (s) for burned plastic or oxidation. Last of all, if the problem still hasn't been found, check to see which lights have burned out.
