Bad idle

I have a 93 teg gs with 190,000, on the odo. My problem is that my car will not idle at all, it hopes around from 500-150, and on good days it will idle from 1200-900rpm. It is very annoying sitting at lights because it shakes so much. The only thing that helps is that it will idle pretty good, but at about 1100 when the ac is on. Have replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and the distributor/ignition computer. Only mods on it are the aem intake and a custom cat back exhaust. Have tried to remove sensors to trick the ecu to check for problems, but so far only has brought creep mode. Hopefully you guys can offer some advice, i hate paying a shop to check for problems, but its getting annoying so i might have to.

Re: Bad idle

It sounds like you'll need to adjust the valve timing and clearance to factory specifications. You should be able to do it yourself with a set of sockets and 1/2" & 3/4" socket wrenches. You'll also need a feeler gauge to adjust the valve clearance. ... And of course, a good ol' Haynes repair manual.

Re: Bad idle

I think its the IACV. I had the same problem. Clean out the IACV and reset the ECU.

Good Call. I agree with almxdupintegra, start with the Idle Air Control Valve.

if your car is cold it will idle at about 2,000 until it warms up.

also do what almxdupintegra said first. then if that still does not work you can check the Fast Idle Thermo Valve(FITV).
