OK...Believe have trouble isolated to alternator...
What is the best way to get to the alternator for repair/replacement? It does not look to be simple as my '64 Impala, nor am I as young now! Thanks...wes watson |

New alternator ,not fun
'97 astro awd of mine just finished with the original alternator 111k miles
All work can be done from under the hood, unlike my '95 remove air cleaner and MAF hose. remove belt, Find volunteer with SMALL hands now: loosen and remove to bolts on alternator brkt. PRY out from bottom, and bring unit foward to remove primary wire, remove wire harness connector. Push coolant hoses down for removal for ease of installation, squeeze bushings on bracket toward front. Reverse for installation. Mend wounds on hands

Re: New alternator ,not fun
It may have one or two 10mm bolts in the rear of the alternator (and they are no fun to work with). Part of the wiring harness runs alongside where the bolts are (near the xhaust manifold side of the alternator).
