Re: 302 small block 1967 Rally Sport z28 Camaro Camaro SS

the engine, if it is the 290hp DZ302 found in the Z28 camaros, and is in good shape, is worth around 3-5k it was not in RS or SS camaros, you say you have the engine, do you have the car it came out of?? what is the VIN number for that car?

Re: 302 small block 1967 Rally Sport z28 Camaro Camaro SS

block # will be on the LH (driver side) rear, making it a PITA to read when in the car sometimes. If you can get it, it's usually a 6 or 7 digit number. problem is the block was also used for 327 and 350 applications, so the casting date (3 digit letter/number combo located to right of casting #) will also help as well as head casting #s.

You could have a 302 in a 67 RS, but not a SS model. SS models originally only came with a 350 or 396 engine.

you could only get the 302 in the Z28, some Z28s were also equipped with the RS package, being a Z28/RS but you could not get the 302 in a RS camaro.

Re: 302 small block 1967 Rally Sport z28 Camaro Camaro SS

Correct. Keep in mind a Z/28 didn't have any badging until late 1968 models (it was RPO Z28 coding that was used for the name). Chevrolet only used the dual hood/deck stripes to tell a Z/28 in all 67 models. Early 68 models had a 302 emblem in front of the marker light.

Thanks!

Thanks for the props, but I guess I have an unfair advantage seeing it's part of my job! My dad has owned a 67 Camaro for 20 years, and I've always wanted a 1st gen, but could never afford or find a nice one.
If I can help out, let me know as I do research for 1967-81 Camaro/Firebird and 1964-87 Chevelle/El Camino stuff, as well as handle new parts for catalogs, at National Parts Depot.

Re: 302 small block 1967 Rally Sport z28 Camaro Camaro SS

the casting # 3914678 decodes to a 1968 block for 302/327/350 2 bolt main. They started using 4-bolt mains for the 302 motor in 1969 models, thus a different block/casting #.
