You will be happier with a 4.3L. Very very peppy in a s10. |

2.2 is reliable and good on gas but lacks power bigtime, i have owned every s series moter except typhoon turbo 4.3 and the early 1.9L isuzu engine and the 4.3 is the best so far, the gas milage isn't that bad for the performance it delivers.

I have a '95 s10 with the 2.2 pushing 175,000 miles. Only major problem was the ac pump died at 147,000 miles. If you decide to get the 2.2, look for one with the 4.11 rear gear. I pull a 2,500lb trailer with the bed loaded and can still run at 70mph and get about 17-19 mpg.
