wierd vibe

I have a 98 zr2 and I have noticed a wierd vibration and a almost humming sound coming from my front left tire area. It only does it when I'm going straight. If I go around a corner, it goes away, but comes back when i'm out of the corner again. Anyone have any idea what this could be? I have a warrenty, but the dealerships always are like, oh, yea, its this and that and nothing is covered under our warrenty so your screwed on this one, again. I just want an idea what it could be to know if it'll be covered or not.

Re: wierd vibe

Sounds to me like it's time to take it in for a wheel alinement, and ask them to check the tires out. Most tire stores can do everything for less than the dealer, and some might even tell you if a problem should be covered under warrenty. Tire stores probably can't do the warrenty work if required.

Lemme guess, hen you go around a left can bend in a road it goes away.

Does it get louder when you are a right hand bend in a road?

Re: wierd vibe

Yep,it goes away when you turn because it puts pressure on the bearing and when you straighten the wheels it relieves the pressure and thats why it makes noise.Same extact problem I had.Mine was loud and you also feel it.

Re: wierd vibe

Turning Left = Loads the Right Bearing
Turning Right = Loads the Left Bearing.

Re: wierd vibe

My noise went away whenever you turned either way.Forgot to mention that speed was also a factor. The noise and vibration didn't start till after 45mph.

Re: wierd vibe

thanks guys, that is the general consensus (kant spel) from a few sites is the wheel bearing, and that should be covered under my warrenty. If not, i'm going to steel a new ugly durango from their lot and put it through their show floor.

Re: wierd vibe

Don't be too harsh with the dealer, if they don't do the right thing contact GM head office, and they might help you out...

If not let us know if the Durango is stronger than the showroom doors

Be harsh to them bro.

Enough pussy footing around, rattle some heads and wake them up.

You have a waranty for a reson. This is part of the warranty.

Ig they refuse, talk to the manager directly and don't leave until he/she talks to you.

Re: wierd vibe

(first off, its a dodge dealership that i'm dealing with cuz that is where my girlfriend works)
Well, gave them a call to see if wheel bearings are covered, and it looks like they want a little help displaying the new durango. Does anyone know how hard it is to change out wheel bearings?

Write this down. 1(800)222-1020. This is the customer assistance department of GM. This is who handles any complaints against dealerships. I had my car in on Monday to have a new cat. conv. put on (GM warrenties them up to 80,000 miles, who knew?) anyway, when I picked it up, I got three miles from the dealership and it started missing like hell. Barely made it back, I had two service guys and the service manager all telling my something had to have been wrong with the car before I bought it in. I said there was nothing wrong at all with it, they said they would look at it but I have to authorize a payment for them to hook it up to the scanner. I said I'm not authorizing shit because they f***ed it up. I had it towed to another dealership. Long story, short, they used a torch to heat up the O2 sensors to break them loose out of the old converter. I had to pay $65 for the towing, $86 for the new sensor, and labor. Total $178 because they screwed my car up. The service manager at the second dealership gave me the number to call. I talked to the guy and he going to make the dealership pay for the repair and towing. Or GM will send me a check and the dealership with pay GM for it.
