97 Coolant

I recently bought my car used from the dealer, and I have no idea what kind of coolant was used in it before, and it is low and I need to fill it. I'm under the impression that I'm not supposed to mix coolants so I guess I have to flush it out right? I can't just fill it up?

Re: 97 Coolant

Chances are very good you have dex-cool, the orange stuff. You could get a q-tip or string and dip it in the radiator if its too low to see from the filler neck.

If they didn't change it over, you have dex-cool. Dex-cool equiped vehicles will have orange lettering on the overflow cap, non-dex-cool will have green. Just be careful that the car hasn't been changed, as the two do not mix, and will sludge up.
