Re: were to buy

xxx - www.reaudio.com and you have you call to order, $399 + shipping so around $430 total. Should be available in a couple weeks

brahma - www.adireaudio.com, you can order from www.acoustic-visions.com, $440 shipped. Been on backorder for several months, but from what I hear it should be shipping again in the next couple weeks

amps - depends on the enclosure, to get the full potential you'll need ~1500 on the xxx or ~1000 on the brahma, how much this costs depends on the quality of the amp, but it should be anywhere from $300+

The rest of my setup is in my sig

If you happen to be a canuck you could try www.sixteenstudios.com or www.creativesound.ca and order from them to save some money on customs. Shipping is $1, I believe.

As mentioned above, power handling totally depends on box. I had my Brahma 15 running off a JBL 1200.1 in a 2.85 ft^3 sealed enclosure until the amp croaked, and it was positively the most sickening low-end I've ever heard in my life... And that's in a sealed box. I plan to try ported when I find myself a new amp to really unleash the power. The JBL amp cost me about US$272. I don't think the 1200.1 is in production anymore, but you can probably still find them on Ebay for pretty cheap. Another amp I see reccommended a lot is the Hifonics Brutus 1500d, and it's around the same price range I believe.

Re: were to buy

the brahma 12 would be louder than just about any 12" sub available, the only exceptions being the other supersubs (idmax, w7, xxx, DD991*, etc).

And it's a SQL sub, designed mainly for pure sound quality and low distortion, but it also has the ability to get very loud. The downside is you pay for it, you can find a kicker 12L7 for $200 brand new, and a brahma 12 is $380 new. The kicker can't get quite as loud, but you could buy 2 of them for the price of a single brahma. The difference in sound quality is what gives the brahma the edge though, it absolutely stomps all over the kickers when it comes to accurate reproduction of sound, transient response, etc.

Re: were to buy

alright thanks. is there any place to get them cheaper then 380 a peice? like on ebay or something. i'll prolly end up getting two of them but i'll just have to save a little longer. also could i get a link to a good amp to power 1 of these brahma 12's? also i really dont have the time to bulid a box for one so where would be the best place to get a box bulit for one?

Re: were to buy

unless you get them used on ebay, you can't get them for less than $380

Don't get a pair of 12's, just get a 15. It will take up about the same amount of space, won't get quite as loud but it will be close, and it will cost a LOT less.

As for boxes, there are a bunch of people who can custom make you one. Since I'm lazy I'm getting mine built by geolemon over at CAF:
http://www.betteraudio.com/geolemon/boxes

2.7cf sealed, carpetted, with internal motor support and bracing, $135.

Mr Cabinetry is also a good guy:
http://www.woodlawncabinetry.com/

As for an amp, there are thousands. You should get around 1000rms per sub, so anything that puts out ~1000x1 @ 1 or 4ohm would work well.

Re: Re: were to buy

No Sony do not have good amps. But there is a sticky called Car Audio FAQ at the top of the page. And it got a topic called "What brands to buy or not buy" on there. Trust me it helps.

depends on what you're going for

sealed will generally give a flatter in-car response and there's no group delay, meaning it's better for SQ

ported will be louder, and it will have a much stronger low end. It can still sound good as far as transients go, but IMO the low end is just too powerful to be very good from a pure sound quality point of view, unless you EQ it out of course. But most people aren't this picky, so just ignore most of what I say
