49 Merc ... quick rod

Got a lil bored working on my contest entry, so I started another car. I started this Sunday, just something quick. I have a couple of these..

Pulled the body off, cut the suspension to the desired hight... low as it can go and still roll and have the wheels turn. Striped the body of all chrome. Striped the paint and filled all the holes with bondo. Started smoothing it all out when it was time to prepare for the pending storm.

So this is as far as I got. Will coutinue on it in a few days and post more pics.

Brand new here

And now

More to come....

It's the "Happy Days" 49 Mercury Stock by Ertl. It's a fairly nice car out the box. Kind of a semi gloss greenish gray color. All the little details are pretty good, chrome is nice. And damn well assebled. I don't know what glue they use but I pulled the chrome off the back of a bunch of the trim trying to get them off the body. Interior is simple, but good detail on the dash. I can't get the front seat off the floor pan WHAT KINDA GLUE IS THIS????

It has a full engine and trans if you decide to go nuts on detail, plug wires are molded to the heads though. Should turn out nice when done

I so want that. Soak the seat/floorpan in some dot 3 brake fluid to help loosen it up. watch it though. Test the plast first to make sure it doesnt melt.

FLAT...

on the ground...I love it! Id say deep purple, as dark as you can find, with pink or light purply flames with a white outline. And lots of pinstriping!

Hehe, I think purple would be an excellent color. Royal purple and chrome make for some fabulous photos.

Well the chrome part of that is out since I already striped it clean of chrome

I am planing a dark color, maybe black, with a flat or semi gloss finish. I will do either flames or scallops oir a tribal flame, not sure. I just need to find a flat or matt clear. Since I will be doing a couple of colors I need to get a uniform finish. After that, striping. Been a while since I've handled a pinstriping brush but we'll see how it goes

Got a lil done while waiting out the storm, glad it missed here, sorry for the folks to the east of me, was ruff.

Got the big bondo sanded down and primed. It still needs some spotting and final sanding before paint. The doors don't align too well, I may try to tweek the hinge.

If I had one, I'd actually chop it. Looks great!

Re: 49 Merc ... quick rod

I'd chop it too, this is just a quickie to keep the brain fresh. I get bored working on one project. Maybe I'll chop the next, there will be another...
