HELP Installing a Distributor/Engine Rotated

I am looking for some information on installing a distributor on a 1987 4.0L Cherokee, I just bought a remanufactured engine and now have it sitting into place and the only thing left to insatll is the distributor. The vibaration damper is sitting on ZERO. Can anyone give me step by step instuction on how to do this. I will be installing a ned distributor..... Anyone with information can e-mail me at [email protected] or leave a thread here.

If your dampener is at "0" then double check that your on the compression stroke. Then put your cap on the distributor, locate and mark were #1 plug wire connects on the cap, on the distributor. remove the cap. turn the rotor to just before the #1 mark and slide into the engine, it should slide in easily,DO NOT FORCE.Also make sure your oil pump drive rod is lined up with the rotor shaft on the distr. This will all take a "little" tweeking, but it should "drop" right in. Turn the engine over by hand, watching the distributor rotor turning and the oil pump is properly engaged to the dist. also doulble check you timing marks ( #1 to TDC) Did you prime your oil pump?
