Of course, once you get out of the top 100 its all highly subjective.Take a look around the word 'forums' for example.It's surrounded by words that I'd never use.

Obviously, the region in which this survey was conducted has a bearing on its results. I can't imagine the word 'vinny' being used much,except by British soccer fans.'Medau' is a current fad in Britain too.
http://www.medau.org.uk/ Compare that with, say, "Atkins" - a similar subject much more prominent in most of the world,and it becomes fairly obvious that this survey is not universally truthful.

The first word is "the", and it has a low rank. That means it is common.. The higher the number on that site, the less it is used. I'm randomly guessing unused words and insightful got me 56447
