Question 89 accord gas guage not responding

I got an 89 accord, and I get no response out of the fuel guage. Do you think this could be the sender? If so then where in my car could I find the sender? If you don't think it is the sender, then what? I am stumped and I can't find anything in the haynes book about it.

Re: 89 accord gas guage not responding

The easiest way to troubleshoot a gauge problem is to find the sensor which is attached to the top of the tank, probably on the right side in the trunk or under the back seat. THere is a plastic cover covering the sensor. Remove the cover, disconnect the connector and short the terminals on the cable. Turn on the key. If your guage slowly goes to full, the problem is the sensor.

89 accord fuel system help needed

OK I have changed the gas sensor completely out, as well as my fuel pump and my fuel relay. Does any one else know what this may be. Also My car has a problem where it revs up to around 3000 rpm, when I am stopping or sitting still at like a red light or something. I have no clue what this could be. I have changed my throttle cable, and checked each of my injectors. Please help me...

Have ytou checked for a vacuum leak in one of the hoses? Withthe hood up and listening closely to the engine do you hear any hissing noises???

So was the problem with the gas gauge the sensor???

yes the other guages work fine. No I haven't checked the electrical connection. I do not know where that is. The only thing I have checked electrical is my fuel sensor. Also I do not hear any hissing sound other than my intake.

Re: 89 accord gas guage not responding

the electrical connections start behind the gauge and go toward the sensor

Re: 89 accord gas guage not responding

there is a vacuum leak somewhere....get a can of ether or starting fluid and lightly mist around the hoses, while the engine is running. When you hear the engine increase RPM's then you have a bad hose or a crack in ahose somewhere or you can also have a disconnected hose or slighty disconnected hose.

Re: 89 accord gas guage not responding

In my last post I told you how to determine if it was the sensor or wiring/dash guaqe. Did you do the test and what were the results if you did?

I have not taken my dash apart yet. I will try to do so by the end of weekend. I did try spraying the engine vaccum hoses with ether and got no response from vaccum leaks. Do you have another suggestion on how to test to find the leak?
