I have a 86 chevy 2wd with 305 motor, turbo 350 trans. The problem is when driving or accelerating the engine sputters and the service engine soon light comes on. Then it'll run just fine with no light. I checked for ses codes and got none. I changed the plugs and fuel filter which didn't help, and also it doesn't start as easily as I did before this problem. Ignition timing is set also and the old plugs looked fine, so no engine problems. I can't figure out if the problem is ignition or fuel related. Anyone have any suggestions on the problem?

Re: Stutters at acceleration and cruise speeds
is it the motor or does it feel like its in the trans? that to me sounds like a torq converter, have you had the trans rebuilt resently?

Is it carbureted or injected?
Either way, put a fuel pressure tester on it and drive around. When it sputters, take note of the pressure. HEI Distributor? How many miles on it?

Just sold the truck, so no big deal now, but I'm thinking the problem was an injector was clogged a bit.
