Valvoline blew out my heater core!!!
I go into Valvoline to get an oil change and a radiator flush. While driving to work the next day I notice the smell of anti-freeze. I stop pop the hood and don't see any leaks. I am getting steam on the windows. I call my mechanic and he tells me that it sounds like a blown heater core from the backflushing that Valvoline does. He said it is the third one he has had in in the past two months from Valvoline. I called Valvoline and they offered to top off the fluids and take a look but said that if it was blown it is not their fault. I will not go into what else was said but was not good. Anyway do not go there and have this done.

Re: Valvoline blew out my heater core!!!
The flush probably opened up a blockage that was stopping the leak.
How old is your heater core. |

Re: Valvoline blew out my heater core!!!
I agree that there was some crude stoping up a hole and they flushed it out. Like having a nail in your tire as soon as you pull it out there goes the air.

Re: Valvoline blew out my heater core!!!
Yip, my point exactly.
Coolant system flushes cannot cause a blown heater core. |

Ok.. thanks for the advise and insight... is this something I could do myself or would it be better for certified mechanic to do? Special tools needed? Anyone have instructions?
