Motor Oil Check

So this may come out as dumb but um...how do you check how much oil you have in your car? Other cars have like "max" and "min" labels on the dipstick but my '94 SL doesn't have any labels on it. There are 2 "cuttings" on the stick that I've been using as the max and min labels but don't know if that's the right way. Do you guys have labels on your sticks? If not how do you check your oil? Thanks.

Re: Motor Oil Check

Well this is covered in the manual, I believe they are hot and cold notches. I generally try and keep my oil in between the two when the engine is cold.

Re: Motor Oil Check

Stealth, I'm not sure but that seems kinda often for you to be adding oil. How much do you have to add each time? I check mine often but I usually don't have to add until I do an oil change.

Re: Motor Oil Check

I've noticed alot of people who have 3000GTs have long comutes to work or other places, I got it because it was cheaper than going on the trian every other weekend to see my girlfriend at the time.

The engine i have now is a used one... i got it from a place and it has 40k miles on it.. it was put in the middle of june.. but i havent changed the oil yet... so im guessing thats the reason.. plus my lifters tick pretty bad when i first start it up... but they still tick when its warmed up to normal temp. ... what is the right oil for these cars?... and any particular brand?
